Expanding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Lane County Families

The Early Childhood Hub of Lane County is thrilled to announce that our local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Lane County has expanded!

Imagination Library of Lane County – hosted by United Way of Lane County – now serves most communities in Lane County, making it even easier for local families to register their child or children to receive FREE books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library each month.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that sends free books each month directly to early readers until their 5th birthday. Books are available in bilingual Spanish/English as well as braille and audio formats. There is no income requirement or registration fee to participate. If you have a child or children under the age of 5 and live in Lane County, your family is eligible.

What is Imagination Library of Lane County?

Until recently, there were five local organizations coordinating Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for families in Eugene, Springfield, and rural communities, including Eugene Public Library Foundation, Springfield Young Readers, and United Way of Lane County, in partnership with the Early Childhood Hub of Lane County. Previously, when families moved from one area to another within Lane County, they needed to re-register with whichever organization served their municipality.

Imagination Library of Lane County now coordinates and expands access to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for most towns and cities across our county, including Eugene, Springfield, and 25 rural communities. This makes it even easier for local families to keep books coming to their homes, wherever they live in Lane County.

Every month, Imagination Library of Lane County sends free books to over 8,000 children across Lane County!

Remembering Dolly and Her Legacy in Lane County

Our community is mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, who passed late last month. Dolly was a truly legendary singer, songwriter, actor, and humanitarian, with a special passion for literacy and learning.

Her lived experience being born into extreme poverty in rural Tennessee fueled her commitment to breaking that cycle for others – and literacy was the key. When Dolly found herself in a position to give back, she did so generously and from the spirit of reciprocity.

Since 2014 – thanks to the support of Dolly’s foundation and so many local donors and partners – over 750,000 books have been sent directly to children across Lane County.

Every free book that Dolly has sent, and will continue to send through Imagination Library of Lane County, is proof that her legacy lives on. In her memory, and with the generous support of local donors in our communities, we will continue to create a better future for every child, family, and community in Lane County.
